If a specific page on an Internet site does not load for some reason or in case a link is broken, the site visitor will see an error page with a generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the website, which may make the visitor leave your website. A solution in such a case is a function made available from some hosting service providers - the ability to set your own custom error pages which shall have the same style and design as your website and that may contain any text or images that you'd like based on the specific error. There are 4 standard errors that can occur and they involve these particular so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your browser sends a bad request to the web server and it cannot be processed; 401, if you're supposed to log in to see a page, but you have not done this yet; 403, if you don't have a permission to view a particular page; and 404, in case a link that you have clicked leads to a file that doesn't exist. In all of these scenarios, visitors will be able to see your custom made content rather than a generic error page.
Custom Error Pages in Cloud Hosting
You will be able to set up custom made error pages for all of your domains or subdomains. The feature is supported by all cloud hosting
solutions that we offer, so when you log in to the Hepsia Control Panel and go to the Hosted Domains section, you can easily click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up that will be displayed, you could choose the type of error page that should show up - a default one from our system, a standard Apache web server page or a custom one. For the aforementioned alternative, you need to specify the URL to the page, so when you use personalized pages, you have to upload the files inside your hosting account first. One other way is to use an .htaccess file placed in the domain or subdomain folder with a line for every error type. The actual syntax can be seen in our Knowledge Base, to help you use this feature even if you do not have any previous experience.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you host your Internet sites in a semi-dedicated server
account with us, you could set custom made error pages for any of them with ease through our custom Hepsia hosting Control Panel. With a few mouse clicks in the Hosted Domains section, you'll be able to modify the default setting from a system page to a custom one for each of the 4 error types. All you should do is supply a link to every file which you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If necessary, you'll be able to revert this change at any time and in exactly the same way. If you would like, you could use an .htaccess file as well. It has to be created/uploaded inside the domain or subdomain folder associated with the internet site whose error pages you would like to alter and the content for this sort of file can be found in our Help article for this matter.
